Job Overview
Starlite Aviation Training Academy is looking for a punctual, reliable, hardworking and safety-conscious Hangar Assistant to join its team in Durban.
The successful candidate will provide general hangar and aircraft support, helping maintain clean, safe and operational facilities while assisting with aircraft-related duties. This role requires someone who is comfortable with practical, hands-on work and who understands the importance of safety, compliance and quality in an aviation environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Hangar Assistant will be responsible for:
- Cleaning and maintaining the hangar, including sweeping and mopping floors.
- Cleaning helipads and surrounding areas.
- Cleaning the interior and exterior of aircraft in accordance with the company’s corrosion-control programme.
- Moving aircraft when required.
- Refuelling aircraft.
- Maintaining gardens and lawns around the facility.
- Reporting any aircraft damage, fuel leaks, oil leaks or other issues that could affect an aircraft’s ability to operate safely.
- Reporting incidents or hazards that could potentially make an aircraft unserviceable.
- Performing general ad-hoc duties as assigned by management.
- Assisting with occasional driving or transport duties when required.

Qualifications & Experience
The essential qualification is:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
Previous experience in aviation support would be advantageous but is not listed as essential.
Candidates should be willing to work in a practical aviation-support environment and understand that maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety and compliance is an important part of the position.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal Hangar Assistant will be dependable, hardworking and willing to take responsibility for maintaining the hangar and surrounding areas.
Because the role involves working around aircraft, fuel and aviation equipment, a strong safety mindset is essential. Candidates must be observant and able to identify and report anything that could potentially compromise aircraft safety or operational readiness.
Good communication is also important, particularly when reporting defects, leaks, damage or other incidents to the relevant team members.
