Job Overview
Tsebo Facilities Solutions is looking for a skilled and reliable Handyman to join its team in Durban. The successful candidate will perform First Line Maintenance (FLM) across assigned branches, helping to ensure that facilities remain safe, functional, clean and well maintained.
This is a practical, hands-on position that covers a range of general maintenance activities, including building repairs, plumbing, carpentry, painting, tiling and basic electrical support. The Handyman will work independently on routine maintenance tasks while also assisting Technicians with certain electrical, HVAC and facilities-related activities under supervision.
The role is suited to someone with good practical skills, attention to detail and the ability to work safely with tools and equipment across multiple sites.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
The Handyman will be responsible for performing scheduled First Line Maintenance activities at assigned branches. This includes carrying out minor building repairs such as repairing doors, locks, hinges, skirtings, tiles, ceilings, walls and furniture.
The successful candidate will also perform paint touch-ups and other general repairs required to maintain the appearance and functionality of branch facilities.
Electrical Support
The Handyman will assist Technicians with basic electrical maintenance tasks, including:
- Replacing bulbs, tubes and LED panels.
- Replacing switches and sockets where appropriate.
- Resetting breakers.
- Preparing work areas for electrical servicing.
- Assisting with DB board checks under appropriate supervision.
- Providing general support during electrical maintenance activities.
Plumbing & General Maintenance
The role will also involve assisting with minor plumbing work, including:
- Fixing basic leaks.
- Replacing washers.
- Clearing blockages.
- Identifying and reporting plumbing issues.
- Supporting general building maintenance requirements.
The Handyman will be expected to inspect branch facilities and identify areas requiring attention. These checks will cover one-to-one areas, cashier counters, back-office spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, walls, ceilings, windows, signage, decals and general branch conditions.
HVAC & Facilities Support
The successful candidate will support HVAC and electrical servicing by preparing work areas and ensuring that technicians have the necessary access and equipment.
This may include managing ladders, tools and access points and assisting with DB board checks under supervision.
The Handyman must ensure that work areas remain safe, clean and organised throughout maintenance activities.
Safety & Compliance
Health and safety are an important part of this position. The Handyman must follow all applicable PPE, Health & Safety and workplace procedures.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining safe work areas.
- Using tools and ladders correctly.
- Following safety procedures.
- Wearing required PPE.
- Keeping maintenance areas clean and orderly.
- Supporting fire equipment inspections.
- Checking fire-equipment brackets, mounting and visibility.
Maintenance Records & Reporting
The Handyman will also be responsible for documenting completed maintenance activities.
This includes capturing photos and notes as maintenance evidence and updating digital maintenance systems such as SAP Fiori / AFMS with completed FLM tasks.
Any issues that cannot be resolved as part of First Line Maintenance must be properly recorded and escalated as Second Line Maintenance (SLM) requirements.

Qualifications & Experience
The minimum and preferred requirements include:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Trade-related training is advantageous.
- Driver’s licence preferred.
- At least 2 years’ experience in general maintenance or facilities support.
- Multi-site or field-service experience is beneficial.
- Ability to work safely with ladders, tools and maintenance equipment.
