Job Overview
The Building Company is looking for a reliable, responsible and safety-conscious Driver: 3 501–9 000 kg to join the BUCO team at Port Elizabeth North End.
The main purpose of this position is to provide a safe, prompt and efficient delivery service to the company’s customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that goods are delivered to customers in the correct quantities and in good condition, with particular attention given to preventing product damage, breakages and shortages.
The role requires a driver who understands the importance of vehicle safety, accurate delivery documentation, professional customer service and responsible handling of goods. The driver will also assist with loading activities, conduct daily vehicle inspections and ensure that the allocated vehicle is properly maintained.
As the driver will represent the company when interacting with customers, professionalism, reliability and good communication are essential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Delivering Goods
The driver will be responsible for delivering goods to customers according to the required delivery schedules and instructions. Deliveries must be completed safely, efficiently and accurately while ensuring that all products reach the correct destination.
The driver must take appropriate care when transporting goods to minimise the risk of damage, breakages or shortages.
2. Loading and Handling Goods
The successful candidate will supervise and assist with the loading of goods onto the vehicle. Goods must be loaded carefully and securely to prevent movement or damage during transportation.
The driver must ensure that the vehicle is neatly and correctly packed before departing for deliveries.
3. Vehicle Safety and Inspections
Daily vehicle inspection checks must be completed before operating the vehicle. Any defects or concerns identified during inspections must be reported promptly.
The driver is also responsible for helping to maintain the vehicle in a safe, clean and roadworthy condition.
4. Accurate Deliveries
The driver must ensure that customers receive the correct quantities and supplies as reflected on the relevant documentation.
Delivery notes must be handled correctly and authorised where required. The driver must ensure that all necessary delivery documentation is completed and returned according to company procedures.
5. Customer Service
The driver is an important point of contact between BUCO and its customers. The successful candidate must therefore provide professional, courteous and helpful service during every delivery.
Good communication and a customer-focused approach are important when dealing with customers and resolving delivery-related queries.
6. COD Collections
Where required, the driver will be responsible for collecting Cash on Delivery (COD) monies from customers and ensuring that all collected payments are handled and submitted according to company procedures.
Accuracy, honesty and accountability are essential when dealing with customer payments.
7. Vehicle Maintenance and Cost Control
The driver must take responsibility for the allocated vehicle and help maintain it in good working condition.
This includes reporting defects, conducting inspections and using the vehicle responsibly. Drivers are also expected to contribute towards reducing unnecessary vehicle operating costs through responsible driving and proper vehicle care.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Valid Code 10 (HV) driver’s licence or Code 8 (LV) licence, depending on the applicable vehicle weight category.
- Relevant driving experience.
- Ability to safely transport and handle goods.
- Ability to conduct basic vehicle inspection checks.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer-service orientation.
- Ability to follow instructions and company procedures.
- Reliable and responsible approach to work.
- Ability to work carefully and accurately when handling goods and delivery documentation.
