Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is building a talent pool of Casual Cashiers for its Mall of Africa store. This talent pool allows Dis-Chem to identify and pre-screen suitable candidates for current and future cashier opportunities.
The Casual Cashier will support customers at the point of sale while delivering a professional, accurate and welcoming shopping experience. The role involves processing purchases and payments, handling cash, assisting customers with queries, managing refunds and exchanges where authorised, and following Dis-Chem’s policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- At least 6 months’ cashier or till-operation experience.
- Computer literacy, including MS Office.
- Sound numerical skills.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Basic customer service skills.
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
- Reliable transport and/or residence close to the store.
- South African citizenship.
- Clear credit and criminal records.
An additional language will be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Process customer purchases and all accepted payment methods accurately.
- Operate the cash register and maintain the cash drawer.
- Process cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons and other payments.
- Handle refunds and merchandise exchanges when authorised.
- Process customer loyalty cards and applicable rewards programmes.
- Provide professional customer service and establish positive relationships with customers.
- Respond to customer queries regarding merchandise.
- Remain informed about current sales and promotions.
- Report customer complaints and compliments to the relevant supervisor or management.
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are properly approved.
- Safeguard cash and follow procedures for placing money in the drop safe.
- Keep till access codes and passwords secure and never share them.
- Ensure all outgoing stock, items and prescriptions are scanned and paid for.
- Handle daily takings confidentially.
- Identify and report suspicious behaviour or potential fraud risks.
- Follow Dis-Chem’s customer service, security and operational procedures.
- Maintain accuracy and minimise errors during transactions.
- Ensure customers and colleagues are not exposed to unnecessary risks.
- Meet required customer turnover and service standards.
