Job Overview
An opportunity is available for a high-calibre Medium Motor Vehicle Driver / Code 10 Driver to join TSA KZN Distribution in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing vehicles for trips and safely operating heavy-duty vehicles while ensuring that all required documentation, inspections and operational procedures are completed correctly. This position requires an experienced driver who understands heavy-duty vehicle operations, road safety, vehicle maintenance requirements and responsible driving practices.
The ideal candidate must have a valid Code 10 driver’s licence and PDP, relevant articulated driving experience, a safe driving record and a clean criminal record. The role also requires someone who is medically fit and comfortable working in a demanding transport environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Medium Motor Vehicle Driver will be responsible for:
- Preparing the assigned vehicle for each trip.
- Conducting appropriate vehicle inspections before operating the vehicle.
- Operating heavy-duty vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Ensuring the vehicle is roadworthy before leaving the depot.
- Handling all required trip and operational documentation.
- Completing ancillary duties related to the operation of the vehicle.
- Following all reasonable instructions provided by the Supervisor.
- Reporting vehicle defects, emergencies and other relevant issues according to company procedures.
- Applying safe driving practices in different weather, road and traffic conditions.
- Ensuring the vehicle and its components are operated correctly.
- Applying appropriate vehicle loading techniques.
- Using vehicle equipment, including fire extinguishers, correctly when required.
- Taking responsibility for the safe operation of the vehicle at all times.
- Working according to applicable road traffic legislation and company procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Grade 10 literacy level.
- Valid Code 10 driver’s licence.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- 3 years’ articulated driving experience.
- Must be medically fit to perform the duties of the position.
- Must have a clean criminal record.
- Must demonstrate a safe driving record.
- Defensive driving knowledge and experience.
Candidates should also have a good understanding of heavy-duty vehicle operations, including:
- Eaton Fuller gearbox operation.
- ZF gearbox operation.
- The function and location of vehicle components.
- Road Traffic Act requirements relating to vehicle operation.
- Appropriate driver responses to weather, road and traffic conditions.
- Emergency and vehicle defect reporting procedures.
- Vehicle inspection procedures.
- Correct use of a fire extinguisher.
- Vehicle loading techniques.
- Methods of maximising vehicle cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
Driver Safety & Compliance
