Job Overview
Glencore’s Lion Smelter in Steelpoort, Limpopo, is looking for a qualified and experienced Driver (Forklift) to join its engineering support environment.
Reporting to the Artisan Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for operating a forklift as well as other designated vehicles, including tractors and light delivery vehicles. The position supports the smooth running of operations within a heavy-industry environment and requires someone who is safety-conscious, reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team.
This opportunity is suited to candidates who have the required Grade 12 qualification, a valid driver’s licence and a valid forklift driver’s licence, together with relevant experience in a heavy-industry environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Operating forklifts safely and efficiently within the workplace.
- Driving tractors when required.
- Operating light delivery vehicles as part of operational requirements.
- Transporting materials, equipment or items safely as instructed.
- Following all workplace safety procedures when operating vehicles and equipment.
- Conducting duties according to instructions from the Artisan Coordinator.
- Taking appropriate care of vehicles and equipment under their control.
- Supporting engineering and operational activities where vehicle assistance is required.
- Maintaining good communication with colleagues and supervisors.
- Performing additional reasonable duties related to the position when required.
Qualifications & Licences
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- A valid Code 08 or Code 10 driver’s licence.
- A valid forklift driver’s licence.
Having the appropriate licences is essential because the role requires the successful candidate to operate a forklift, tractor and light delivery vehicle.
Experience Requirements
Candidates should have:
- At least one year of relevant experience in a heavy-industry environment.
- Practical experience operating a forklift.
- Experience working safely around industrial equipment and vehicles will be beneficial.
- The ability to follow workplace procedures and instructions.
Experience within a heavy-industrial environment is particularly important because the position forms part of the engineering support function at the Lion Smelter.

Overtime may be required when necessary, and candidates should be prepared to work additional hours when operational demands require it.
Shift work may also be required during shutdown periods. Applicants should therefore be comfortable working outside of standard working hours when necessary and adapting to changing operational requirements.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a qualified forklift operator with heavy-industry experience who understands the importance of safe vehicle operation and workplace procedures.
You should be comfortable operating a forklift and other designated vehicles, have the required licences, and be able to communicate effectively with the engineering and operational teams.
A strong focus on safety, reliability and following instructions will be important in this role, particularly given the industrial environment in which the successful candidate will work.
