📌 ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Curro is an independent schooling provider offering quality education from early childhood development through to Grade 12.
Curro St Dominics in Newcastle is looking for a Cafeteria Assistant to join the school on a full-time basis from September 2026.
The successful candidate will assist with the daily operation of the school cafeteria, including food preparation, food sales, customer service, cleaning, hygiene and health and safety.
This position is suitable for someone who enjoys working with food and people, is reliable and has a strong work ethic.

🍔 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Food Preparation & Sales
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Preparing and selling food and related products to learners, parents and teachers.
- Assisting with the preparation of cooked and warm food when required.
- Processing sales correctly and efficiently.
- Handling money carefully and responsibly.
- Providing input to the Cafeteria Supervisor regarding product sales.
- Providing friendly and professional service to learners, staff and members of the public.
- Acting as an ambassador for the school when interacting with customers.
- Assisting with special school events when required.
- Ensuring food is prepared and presented according to required standards.
🧼 CLEANING, HEALTH & SAFETY
The candidate will also be expected to:
- Maintain clean and hygienic workspaces.
- Keep cafeteria equipment clean and properly maintained.
- Wear appropriate clothing and protective attire when handling food.
- Assist the Cafeteria Supervisor with health, safety and hygiene requirements.
- Follow all food safety procedures.
- Comply with health and safety standards at all times.
- Maintain a safe environment for learners, staff and customers.
- Ensure good hygiene practices are followed when preparing and serving food.
🎓 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric – Essential.
- At least 1 year of experience as a Cafeteria Assistant or Tuck Shop Assistant.
Advantageous:
- A formal cooking qualification.
Previous experience in a school cafeteria, tuck shop, food service or similar environment would be beneficial.
