Job Overview
Unitrans is looking for an experienced Tracking Operator to join its Chemicals Transport division in Tulisa Park, Gauteng. This permanent opportunity is ideal for candidates with experience in the transport and logistics industry who are passionate about fleet monitoring, operational control, and ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vehicles.
As a Tracking Operator, you will be responsible for monitoring fleet movements using MiX Telematics and the TRAMM Transport Management System (TMS). Your role will involve ensuring real-time visibility of vehicle movements, monitoring driver behaviour, responding to incidents, and maintaining tracking systems to achieve maximum operational uptime.
You will work closely with drivers, operations teams, and external service providers to identify risks, resolve transport issues, and ensure deliveries are completed safely and on schedule. The successful candidate will also play a key role in accident reporting, incident investigations, and maintaining accurate operational reports for management.
This role is suited to someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, able to remain calm under pressure, and capable of making quick decisions in a fast-paced transport environment.
Key Responsibilities
As a Tracking Operator, you will:
- Monitor vehicle movements using MiX Telematics and TRAMM TMS.
- Ensure real-time visibility of fleet operations.
- Monitor driver behaviour, speeding, route deviations, and unauthorised stops.
- Report faulty tracking units and ensure repairs are completed promptly.
- Maintain 100% tracking unit uptime in line with company targets.
- Monitor tracking systems and investigate operational exceptions.
- Assist with accident and incident reporting and investigations.
- Respond quickly to alarms generated by tracking systems.
- Take appropriate action during emergencies such as accidents or hijackings.
- Compile accurate operational reports for management and other departments.
- Receive and manage calls from external tracking service providers, including MiX Track, React, and DriveCam.
- Escalate operational risks through the correct reporting channels.
- Perform additional duties assigned by management when required.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or NQF Level 4 qualification.
- Experience in the transport and logistics industry (essential).
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Own reliable transport.
