📌 JOB OVERVIEW

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for Security Controllers to join its Talent Pool in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Security Controller will be responsible for supervising on-site security operations, managing loss prevention activities, protecting company assets, overseeing high-risk stock and responding to security incidents.

The role also involves working closely with the off-site CCTV monitoring centre to respond to suspicious activities, verify incidents and request footage when required.

🎓 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Essential Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • PSIRA Grade B or Grade A accreditation.
  • Must be PSIRA registered.
  • Minimum 2 years’ retail security experience, preferably in a shopping mall environment.
  • Experience in:
    • CCTV monitoring and incident reporting.
    • Access control.
    • Loss prevention.
    • Client liaison.
    • Daily operational reporting.
    • Digital security systems.
    • Electronic incident reporting and case tracking.
  • Knowledge of POPIA, particularly regarding CCTV footage and personal information.
  • Ability to write statements and handle evidence.
  • Ability to attend court proceedings when required.

Advantageous

  • Basic First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Computer literacy and experience with reporting systems.
  • Knowledge and experience operating Hikvision security systems.

🛡️ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment.

Duties include:

  • Monitoring the premises and remaining alert for suspicious activities.
  • Investigating and reporting damage, tampering and unlawful entry.
  • Responding to alerts from the off-site CCTV monitoring centre.
  • Liaising with the monitoring centre regarding incidents and footage.
  • Protecting company property and assets against theft, fraud, vandalism and other risks.
  • Supervising opening and closing procedures.
  • Monitoring high-risk areas and stock.
  • Investigating stock losses, shrinkage and damages.
  • Conducting physical security audits and inspections.
  • Supervising warehouse truck access and offloading processes.
  • Ensuring relevant documentation is verified and compliant.

👮 SUPERVISION & LEADERSHIP

The Security Controller will also supervise on-site security personnel by:

  • Allocating duties to security guards.
  • Ensuring compliance with security procedures.
  • Monitoring staff performance.
  • Providing guidance and corrective action where necessary.
  • Maintaining discipline and professionalism.
  • Ensuring compliance with PSIRA regulations.
  • Acting as a shift leader or site supervisor when required.
  • Providing coaching and on-the-job training.
  • Ensuring proper shift handovers.

🚨 RAPID RESPONSE & EMERGENCIES

The successful candidate must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to security incidents and emergencies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Responding to alarm activations and emergency alerts.
  • Managing high-risk incidents professionally.
  • Handling shoplifting incidents lawfully.
  • Coordinating with SAPS when required.
  • Preserving evidence and compiling case files.
  • Attending court proceedings where necessary.
  • Following procedures during armed robberies, assaults and other life-threatening situations.
  • Supporting evacuation procedures and maintaining order during emergencies.

📝 ADMINISTRATION & REPORTING

The role also requires accurate administration, including:

  • Maintaining occurrence books and registers.
  • Recording daily activities and unusual incidents.
  • Preparing detailed incident reports.
  • Requesting and documenting CCTV footage.
  • Maintaining accurate investigation and stock-control documentation.
  • Supporting audits and loss-prevention reporting.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
