Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for an experienced Casual Cashier to join its Walmer Park store in Gqeberha. This part-time opportunity is ideal for someone with previous cashier or till experience who enjoys working with customers in a fast-paced retail environment.
The successful candidate will provide excellent customer service at the point of sale while ensuring every transaction is processed accurately and in accordance with Dis-Chem’s policies and standard operating procedures. The role requires honesty, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain efficient cash handling practices while creating a positive shopping experience for customers.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Delivering professional and friendly customer service at all times.
- Processing customer purchases accurately using the Dis-Chem point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Handling cash, debit cards, credit cards, vouchers, coupons, and other approved payment methods.
- Maintaining accurate cash flow and balancing the till according to company procedures.
- Processing refunds, exchanges, and returns when authorised.
- Promoting current sales, promotions, and loyalty programmes to customers.
- Processing loyalty cards, including Discovery Health, Momentum Multiply, Medihelp Lifestage, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks.
- Ensuring all merchandise leaving the store has been correctly scanned and paid for.
- Reporting customer compliments and complaints to the Frontline Supervisor or Store Management.
- Monitoring suspicious behaviour and reporting any potential fraud or security risks.
- Ensuring all line voids and price changes are authorised by a supervisor.
- Keeping passwords and till access codes secure.
- Adhering to Dis-Chem’s customer service, security, and operational procedures.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding daily cash takings.
- Assisting customers with general product and store-related enquiries.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- At least 6 months’ cashier or till operation experience.
- Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Sound numerical skills.
- Good command of the English language (written and spoken).
- Basic customer service experience.
- Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.
