Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of the Agent: Call Centre role is to provide efficient customer engagement services by responding to customer enquiries through telephone, email, and other communication channels.
The successful candidate will aim to resolve customer queries during the first point of contact wherever possible while ensuring that requests are processed according to organisational procedures and service standards.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:
Qualification
- Diploma in Customer Relations or Customer Service (NQF Level 5).
Experience
- One to two years of experience in one of the following environments:
- Customer Service
- Customer Information Services
- Call Centre Operations
Relevant experience in handling customer enquiries and providing support through multiple communication channels will be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform a variety of customer service and administrative duties, including:
Customer Support
- Receive incoming customer telephone calls.
- Respond to customer emails, letters, faxes, and other correspondence.
- Handle customer enquiries professionally and courteously.
- Resolve customer queries during the first point of contact whenever possible.
- Inform customers about expected turnaround times.
- Provide service request reference numbers for logged enquiries.
- Process customer requests according to established procedures.
Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
- Capture customer enquiries accurately on the CRM system.
- Update customer activities and request statuses.
- Attach supporting documentation to customer service requests.
- Monitor outstanding requests and ensure follow-up actions are completed.
- Verify progress on requests referred to other business units.
Administrative Support
- Provide administrative assistance to the Customer Engagement unit when required.
- Maintain accurate customer records.
- Assist with correspondence and documentation.
- Report workstation or system faults to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with internal departments to resolve customer enquiries.
- Escalate unresolved matters to the relevant business unit or line manager.
- Connect internal staff with external customers when necessary.
- Participate in meetings and stakeholder engagements where required.
- Support customer satisfaction surveys and service improvement initiatives.
Risk and Compliance
The successful candidate will also be expected to:
- Follow all SABS policies and procedures.
- Adhere to organisational governance requirements.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Comply with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with fraud prevention and risk management processes.
