Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting a Qualified Clinic Nurse Practitioner (Clinic Sister) for its new The Crescent store in Umhlanga. This permanent opportunity is ideal for a registered Primary Health Care Nurse who is passionate about delivering quality healthcare while managing a profitable in-store clinic.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive primary healthcare services within their professional scope of practice, ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining accurate medical records, managing clinic operations, and building strong relationships with patients and healthcare stakeholders. This role combines clinical expertise with operational and administrative responsibilities to ensure the clinic operates efficiently while delivering exceptional healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing Primary Health Care services in accordance with SANC regulations and industry best practices.
- Managing the daily operations of the in-store clinic.
- Ensuring the clinic operates during approved trading hours.
- Monitoring patient volumes and achieving clinic performance objectives.
- Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring confidentiality.
- Processing medical aid claims accurately and within required timeframes.
- Managing clinic stock, medicines, consumables, and medical equipment.
- Ensuring all equipment remains operational and compliant with healthcare standards.
- Building and maintaining professional relationships with patients, store management, dispensary staff, medical aid providers, suppliers, healthcare professionals, and members of the local community.
- Monitoring clinic performance statistics and contributing to business growth.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Tertiary qualification in General Nursing.
- Degree or Diploma in Midwifery.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- BHF Registration (or willingness to obtain it as required).
- 2–3 years’ experience practicing as a Primary Health Care Clinic Sister.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Advantageous Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- 5 or more years’ experience as a Primary Health Care Sister.
- Experience using Patient Record Systems, CKS, and Allegra.
- Baby Immunisation certification.
- Family Planning certification.
- Primary Health Care qualification.
- Breastfeeding counselling training.
- Disease Management qualification.
- Bilingual communication skills.
Knowledge and Skills Required
The ideal candidate should have sound knowledge of:
- Community Health Nursing.
- Primary Health Care.
- Occupational Health Nursing.
- Family Planning.
- Cytology.
- Intrauterine Device (IUD) procedures.
- Pharmacology.
- Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) and Cold Chain Management.

- Breastfeeding support.
- Pathology.
- Wound care.
