Purpose of the Position
The purpose of this role is to provide exceptional customer service while accurately processing customer purchases in accordance with Dis-Chem’s policies and standard operating procedures. The Cashier plays a key role in ensuring secure cash handling, preventing fraud, and maintaining a positive shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Processing customer purchases accurately.
- Receiving payments by cash, card, vouchers, and other approved payment methods.
- Delivering excellent customer service at all times.
- Handling customer enquiries professionally.
- Reporting customer compliments and complaints to management.
- Promoting current store promotions and loyalty programmes.
- Processing returns and exchanges when authorised.
- Managing cash responsibly and balancing the till.
- Ensuring all products are scanned correctly before payment.
- Keeping customer and financial information confidential.
- Following all company security procedures.
- Reporting suspicious behaviour immediately.
- Maintaining a clean and organised checkout area.
- Supporting colleagues to ensure efficient store operations.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- At least 6 months’ cashier or till operating experience.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
- Good numerical skills.
- Good command of the English language.
- Basic customer service skills.
- Willingness to work retail hours.
