Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for an experienced Cashier to join its Ballito Lifestyle store. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, has excellent customer service skills, and can accurately process customer transactions in a busy retail environment. As a cashier, you will be responsible for ensuring customers receive a professional and efficient checkout experience while following company procedures to maintain accuracy and prevent fraud.
You will work at the point of sale, assisting customers with purchases, processing different payment methods, handling returns where authorised, and ensuring every transaction is completed correctly. Dis-Chem places a strong focus on delivering world-class customer service while maintaining strict cash handling and security standards.
Key Responsibilities
As a Cashier, your daily duties will include:
- Provide friendly, professional, and efficient customer service.
- Process customer purchases accurately using the Dis-Chem operating system.
- Handle cash, debit cards, credit cards, vouchers, coupons, and other approved payment methods.
- Process loyalty programme transactions, including Discovery Health, Momentum Multiply, eBucks, Medihelp Lifestage, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and other participating partners.
- Maintain accurate cash flow and ensure all money is safely secured according to company procedures.
- Exchange or process customer returns when authorised.
- Address customer enquiries regarding products and services.
- Inform customers about current promotions and sales.
- Meet hourly customer service and checkout performance targets.
- Report customer complaints, compliments, or concerns to supervisors.
- Ensure all outgoing merchandise is scanned and paid for.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding daily cash takings.
- Monitor for suspicious behaviour and immediately report any concerns to management.
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are authorised by the relevant supervisor.
- Follow all Dis-Chem customer service, security, and operational policies.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Minimum of 6 months’ cashier or till operation experience.
- Computer literate with basic MS Office knowledge.
- Strong numerical and cash handling skills.
- Good command of the English language (written and spoken).
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Willing and able to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Advantageous Requirements
The following will be an added advantage:
- Ability to speak a third South African language.
- Previous retail experience within a pharmacy or FMCG environment.
- Living close to the Ballito Lifestyle store or having reliable transport.
