Job Purpose
The successful candidates will assist with food preparation, serving meals to patients, cleaning kitchen equipment, and maintaining hygiene standards within the hospital’s Food Service Unit. The role is essential in ensuring patients receive safe, hygienic, and nutritious meals while maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
Successful applicants will be required to:
- Perform routine duties within the Food Service Unit.
- Operate food service machinery and kitchen equipment.
- Wash pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, and kitchen utensils.
- Clean floors, equipment, drains, fridges, freezers, and storage areas.
- Empty and sanitise waste bins.
- Pack and unpack food supplies into storage areas.
- Prepare normal and special diet meals for patients.
- Dish and serve patient meals according to hospital guidelines.
- Assist with preparing meals for hospital functions.
- Maintain hygiene and food safety standards at all times.
- Rotate between different duties and work as a relief employee when required.
- Work rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 10 (NQF Level 2).
- At least one year’s experience in a food service environment (advantageous).
- Experience in large-scale cooking will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of hygiene, cleaning, and food safety practices.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Physical fitness to perform manual duties.
- Reliability and trustworthiness.
- Willingness to work shifts and public holidays.
