Job Overview

Rand Water is inviting applications for the position of Heavy Vehicle Driver – Hay Band A2 based at its Zuikerbosch site in Vereeniging, Gauteng. This opportunity is ideal for experienced heavy vehicle drivers who are committed to road safety, responsible vehicle operation, and supporting operational activities within a large infrastructure environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation, use, and maintenance of heavy vehicles, horticultural tools, and plant equipment. The role involves transporting loads safely, ensuring vehicles remain roadworthy, assisting with operational tasks such as tree felling, operating truck-mounted cranes and lifting equipment, completing vehicle documentation, and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who hold a valid Code EC driver’s licence with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP) and are looking to build a career with one of South Africa’s leading water utilities.

Key Responsibilities

The Heavy Vehicle Driver will be responsible for:

  • Safely transporting equipment, materials, and operational loads.
  • Ensuring all loads are correctly balanced, secured, and transported safely.
  • Conducting daily roadworthiness inspections before operating the vehicle.
  • Ensuring vehicles are not overloaded or carrying unsafe loads.
  • Checking the correct operation of lifting equipment, tie-downs, cranes, and slings.
  • Reporting vehicle defects and arranging maintenance where required.
  • Cleaning and maintaining company vehicles.
  • Operating truck-mounted cranes and lifting equipment safely.
  • Assisting with tree felling and horticultural operational activities.
  • Providing relief driving support to other EMS drivers when required.
  • Completing vehicle logbooks accurately and on time.
  • Verifying delivery documentation against transported loads.
  • Taking responsibility for the safety and welfare of crew members during transport.
  • Ensuring the security of both the vehicle and its load while travelling.
  • Disposing of waste at authorised legal dumping sites.
  • Ensuring all lifting equipment complies with operational and safety requirements.
  • Supporting additional transport and operational duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate).
  • A valid Code EC driver’s licence.
  • A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • At least 2 years of heavy vehicle driving experience.
  • Ability to successfully pass the Rand Water K53 driving assessment.
  • Previous back-actor operating experience will be advantageous.
