Job Overview
The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) is recruiting for an Agent: Call Centre to join its Customer Engagement team in Pretoria. As the first point of contact for customers, you will be responsible for handling incoming calls, emails, letters, and other customer enquiries while ensuring that issues are resolved as efficiently as possible. Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Answer incoming customer calls professionally and efficiently.
- Respond to customer enquiries received via telephone, email, letters and fax.
- Resolve customer queries during the first interaction whenever possible.
- Log all customer interactions accurately on the CRM system.
- Issue service request reference numbers for all logged enquiries.
- Inform customers of expected turnaround times and provide regular updates.
- Process customer requests according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Escalate unresolved enquiries to the appropriate departments or line managers.
- Monitor the progress of outstanding customer requests until resolution.
- Update CRM records with accurate information and activity status.
- Route supporting documentation to the relevant departments.
- Transfer calls to internal employees when required.
- Conduct customer satisfaction surveys where applicable.
- Provide administrative support to the Customer Engagement team.
- Maintain an organised workstation and report any technical issues affecting operations.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Higher Certificate or Diploma (NQF Level 5) in Customer Relations or Customer Services.
- 1–2 years’ experience in a Customer Service, Information Services, or Call Centre environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Good computer literacy and ability to work with CRM systems.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism.
- Good problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
