Key Responsibilities
As a Casual Cashier, your responsibilities will include:
- Process customer purchases accurately and efficiently.
- Receive and process cash, card, voucher, coupon, and other approved payment methods.
- Operate the Dis-Chem point-of-sale (POS) system according to company procedures.
- Deliver excellent customer service during every interaction.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers.
- Inform supervisors or management of customer complaints and compliments.
- Keep up to date with current promotions and sales campaigns.
- Process loyalty programme transactions, including partner rewards programmes.
- Process authorised exchanges and customer returns.
- Ensure all outgoing merchandise is correctly scanned and paid for.
- Maintain accurate cash flow throughout each shift.
- Complete cash drops according to company procedures.
- Keep till passwords and access codes secure.
- Protect company assets by following security procedures.
- Recognise and report suspicious behaviour or possible fraud.
- Answer customer queries regarding products and store services.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and security policies.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- At least 6 months’ cashier or till operating experience.
- Computer literacy, including MS Office.
- Strong numerical skills.
- Good command of the English language.
- Basic customer service experience.
- Willingness to work retail hours.
Advantageous Requirements

- Ability to speak a third additional language.
