Job Overview

CBRE Excellerate is seeking a reliable and hardworking Handyman Assistant to join its Facilities Services team in Newcastle. This permanent position is ideal for candidates with experience in general building maintenance who are looking to grow their careers with one of Africa’s leading commercial real estate and facilities management companies.

The successful candidate will assist the Handyman with a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across multiple client sites. Duties include supporting carpentry, painting, plumbing, tiling, ceiling repairs, drywall installation, masonry, furniture repairs, and other general maintenance work. The role also involves using smartphone technology to complete digital job cards, track work progress, and submit reports.

This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, physically fit, willing to travel between client sites, and committed to maintaining high health and safety standards.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to assist the Handyman in delivering efficient building maintenance and repair services while ensuring that maintenance tasks are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with company standards.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Assist with general building maintenance and repairs.
  • Support carpentry, painting, plumbing, tiling, ceiling repairs, drywall, and masonry work.
  • Repair office furniture and fittings when required.
  • Prepare tools, equipment, and materials before maintenance work begins.
  • Assist with building inspections and identify maintenance issues.
  • Complete digital job cards and maintenance reports using a smartphone.
  • Support emergency call-outs and planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
  • Provide regular feedback to the Handyman and Operations Manager.
  • Follow all health, safety, and operational procedures.
  • Perform standby duties when required.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in building or facilities maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, painting, plumbing, tiling, masonry, and general repairs.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Willingness to travel between client sites.
  • Ability to use a smartphone and mobile applications for work reporting.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and detail-oriented.
  • Understanding of health and safety procedures.
