Job Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Casual Frontshop Assistant to join its team at Toti Centre in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal. This part-time opportunity is ideal for energetic, customer-focused individuals who are looking to gain or build experience in the retail industry while working for one of South Africa’s leading pharmacy and retail brands.

As a Casual Frontshop Assistant, you will play an important role in maintaining the store’s merchandising standards, ensuring shelves remain fully stocked and neatly presented, while also providing outstanding customer service throughout the shopping experience. You will assist customers with product enquiries, support point-of-sale activities when required, and help ensure the store operates efficiently in line with Dis-Chem’s policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will help create a clean, organised, and welcoming shopping environment by ensuring products are displayed correctly, shelves are replenished regularly, pricing is accurate, and expired or damaged stock is removed promptly. Attention to detail is essential, as maintaining attractive product displays directly contributes to customer satisfaction and sales performance.

In addition to merchandising duties, Frontshop Assistants also support stock control activities by receiving deliveries, unpacking stock, organising the storeroom, rotating stock according to expiry dates, reporting low stock levels, and assisting with regular stock counts. Candidates should be willing to perform physical tasks such as loading, off-loading, unpacking, and moving stock safely throughout the store.

Customer service is a key part of the role. You will be expected to build professional relationships with customers by providing friendly assistance, answering product questions, following up on out-of-stock enquiries, and helping customers locate products quickly and efficiently. Your positive attitude and willingness to assist will contribute to creating the excellent shopping experience that Dis-Chem is known for.

The role also includes cashier responsibilities when required. You may assist with processing purchases, handling cash, cards, vouchers, loyalty programme transactions, exchanges, and authorised returns while following all company cash handling procedures. Maintaining accuracy and protecting company assets through responsible cash handling and security awareness are essential aspects of the position.

Successful candidates should be reliable, organised, honest, and capable of working in a busy retail environment where teamwork and customer service are top priorities. You should be comfortable working flexible retail hours, including weekends and public holidays, while maintaining a professional appearance in accordance with company standards.

This position is suitable for both entry-level candidates with little retail experience and individuals looking to further develop their retail careers. Previous retail experience is beneficial but not essential, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to learn and grow within the retail industry.

If you enjoy working with people, take pride in maintaining organised retail displays, and are looking for a flexible opportunity with a respected national retailer, this could be the perfect role for you.
