Job Overview
Premier is looking for a responsible, experienced, and safety-conscious Driver Extra Heavy to join its Warehouse team at the Premier Durban Mill. As a Driver Extra Heavy, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of products from the Durban Wheat Mill to customers. Your role is critical in maintaining Premier’s reputation for dependable service and ensuring products reach their destinations on schedule while complying with all road safety regulations and company procedures.
The successful candidate will operate heavy vehicles responsibly while conducting thorough vehicle inspections before each trip to ensure roadworthiness. Drivers are expected to maintain their assigned vehicles in excellent condition by keeping trucks clean, reporting mechanical issues immediately, and completing all required vehicle inspection documentation accurately.
A significant part of this role involves managing delivery documentation. Drivers must ensure all Proof of Delivery (POD) documents are completed correctly, signed by customers, stamped where necessary, and returned to the company for record keeping. Accurate document control is essential and includes managing trip sheets, fuel slips, toll receipts, and other transport-related records.
Drivers will also assist with customer deliveries by safely offloading flour and other products while ensuring stock is handled carefully to prevent damage. Maintaining positive relationships with customers through professional communication and excellent service is an important part of the position.
Premier expects its drivers to contribute to cost-effective operations by monitoring fuel consumption and driving efficiently to achieve company fuel targets. Any accidents, incidents, vehicle defects, or delivery delays must be reported immediately to management to ensure operational continuity and workplace safety.
The successful candidate should demonstrate reliability, honesty, professionalism, and a strong commitment to safety. They should be comfortable working independently while remaining accountable for vehicle condition, product deliveries, and company assets.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Valid Code 14 Driver’s Licence.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- Applicants are responsible for ensuring their PDP remains valid and is renewed annually.
Experience
- 2–3 years’ experience in a similar heavy vehicle driving role.
Key Responsibilities
As a Driver Extra Heavy, your responsibilities will include:
- Safely transport products from the Premier Durban Mill to customers.
- Ensure deliveries are completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain excellent truck housekeeping by keeping vehicles clean and presentable.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections before operating the truck.
- Complete vehicle checklists and report mechanical defects immediately.
- Ensure all incidents and accidents are reported promptly.
- Manage Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation accurately.
- Obtain customer signatures and stamps on delivery documents.
- Maintain accurate records of fuel slips, toll slips, trip sheets, and transport documentation.
- Monitor fuel consumption and meet company fuel efficiency targets.
- Assist with the safe offloading of flour and customer deliveries.
- Follow all company policies, road traffic regulations, and safety procedures.
- Communicate professionally with customers, supervisors, and fleet controllers.
