ANEW Hotel Hilton is looking for a skilled and reliable Handyman to join its Maintenance team in Pietermaritzburg. This role is ideal for someone with practical maintenance experience who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in quality workmanship, and is committed to creating a safe and comfortable environment for guests.
As a Handyman, you will carry out preventative maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of the hotel’s facilities while ensuring high standards of safety, functionality, and guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Service
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests.
- Complete preventative maintenance in guest rooms.
- Minimise disruption while carrying out repairs.
- Identify and resolve maintenance issues before they affect guests.
Maintenance Duties
- Perform general building maintenance and repairs.
- Repair electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Carry out painting, carpentry, and general repair work.
- Maintain furniture, fixtures, and hotel equipment.
- Assist with swimming pool, spa, and landscaping maintenance.
- Monitor contractor work to ensure quality standards are met.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow health and safety procedures.
- Store tools, materials, and chemicals safely.
- Conduct regular safety inspections.
- Monitor water systems and pressure.
- Support energy-saving initiatives.
Resource Management
- Maintain maintenance tools and equipment.
- Manage maintenance supplies and inventory.
- Submit requests for required materials.
- Complete maintenance tasks efficiently using company systems.
Minimum Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- Practical experience in general building maintenance.
- Basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting skills.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC systems.
- Good problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety.
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Lift up to 25 kg when required.
- Use maintenance tools safely and effectively.
- Work indoors and outdoors in different weather conditions.
