Key Responsibilities
Patient and Customer Service
The Akeso Driver plays an important role in supporting patient and customer satisfaction. The successful candidate must provide professional, respectful, and compassionate service at all times.
Responsibilities include:
- Transporting patients, visitors, and staff members when required.
- Collecting and dropping off visitors or patients at locations such as airports, hotels, training venues, or other approved destinations.
- Ensuring all interactions with patients and visitors reflect Netcare’s commitment to dignity, compassion, and excellent service.
- Building customer loyalty by completing tasks efficiently and maintaining a helpful attitude.
- Ensuring that every transport experience is safe, comfortable, and professional.
Deliveries and Collections
The driver will assist with important deliveries and collections required for the daily operation of the Akeso Clinic.
Duties include:
- Collecting clinic post and ensuring it reaches the correct department or recipient.
- Delivering documents according to instructions provided on envelopes or delivery requests.
- Collecting and delivering items required for clinic operations, repairs, and maintenance.
- Completing delivery documentation and obtaining signatures as proof of receipt where necessary.
- Ensuring confidential documents and materials are handled responsibly.
Vehicle Maintenance and Safety
Maintaining the clinic vehicles in a clean, safe, and reliable condition is an important part of this role.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring Akeso Clinic vehicles are taken for scheduled servicing and maintenance when required.
- Collecting vehicles from dealerships after servicing or repairs.
- Washing and maintaining pool vehicles to ensure they remain clean and presentable at all times.
- Reporting any vehicle concerns, faults, or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Maintaining accurate vehicle usage records.
Administrative Duties
The Akeso Driver will provide support with various administrative responsibilities to assist the hospital management team.
Tasks include:
- Completing fuel logbooks for business kilometres travelled.
- Keeping accurate records of deliveries, collections, and vehicle usage.
- Completing filing duties when required.
- Sending requested correspondence via fax or email within the required timeframe.
- Assisting the Hospital Manager with reasonable duties that support clinic operations.
- Supporting marketing initiatives and other operational activities when requested.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
- Valid Code 8 Driver’s Licence.
- Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- BLA or BLS Qualification.
- Basic Ambulance Assistance (BAA) Qualification.
These qualifications demonstrate the ability to provide safe patient transportation and respond appropriately in healthcare-related situations.
Experience Required
Candidates should have:
- At least one year’s experience working as a driver.
- Good knowledge and understanding of provincial roads and geographic routes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently while following healthcare policies and procedures.
- A professional approach when dealing with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and members of the public.
