As a Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic), you will work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, assisting with the dispensing of medication, stock management, and pharmacy administration. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the pharmacy while maintaining compliance with all applicable healthcare regulations and professional standards.

The successful candidate will also contribute to delivering outstanding customer service by assisting customers with their pharmaceutical needs, maintaining a clean and organised pharmacy environment, and ensuring that stock is accurately managed and readily available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist with dispensing medication under supervision.
  • Accurately prepare and label prescribed medication.
  • Perform daily stock control and inventory management.
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with product ordering.
  • Maintain accurate pharmacy records and complete administrative duties.
  • Ensure the pharmacy is clean, organised, and compliant with housekeeping standards.
  • Deliver professional and friendly customer service.
  • Assist customers with front shop enquiries and product selection.
  • Support the pharmacist in maintaining legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure all dispensing and operational procedures are followed correctly.
  • Promote a safe, efficient, and customer-focused pharmacy environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified as a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in a similar pharmacy environment.

Knowledge and Skills

Successful candidates should possess:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of pharmaceutical dispensing procedures.
  • Understanding of dispensing and pharmacy ordering systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy pharmacy environment.
  • Professional, ethical, and reliable work practices.
  • Good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer literacy.

Advantageous

  • Knowledge of retail and FMCG operations.
  • Experience working in a retail pharmacy environment.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy management systems.
