The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced multiple support staff vacancies for 2026 across several provinces. These permanent government positions provide an opportunity for suitably qualified South Africans to work in one of the country’s largest public service institutions while supporting the day-to-day operations of SAPS.

Available positions include Drivers, Security Officers, Security Guards, Messengers, Food Service Aids, and Cleaners. Vacancies are available in Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, North West, Northern Cape, and other locations.

Available Positions

SAPS is recruiting for the following positions:

Successful applicants will be appointed on a permanent basis and placed at various SAPS offices and operational facilities throughout South Africa.

Salary

The advertised salary packages are:

  • Driver, Security Officer and Security Guard: R170,226 per annum (Salary Level 3)
  • Messenger, Food Service Aid and Cleaner: R144,024 per annum (Salary Level 2)

Government employees may also qualify for additional benefits in accordance with public service policies.

Many positions are based at SAPS Head Office in Pretoria, while others are located in Cape Town, Durban, Silverton, Roodeplaat, Atteridgeville, Bellville, Retreat, and other operational centres.

Minimum Requirements

Requirements differ slightly depending on the position, but applicants should generally meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification
  • South African citizenship
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • No criminal convictions or pending criminal cases

Additional requirements apply for certain positions.

Driver

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 10
  • Valid Code B (EB) driver’s licence
  • At least two years’ driving experience
  • Good driving record
  • Ability to maintain vehicle logbooks
Security Officer and Security Guard

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 10
  • Valid PSIRA registration (minimum Grade C)
  • Physical fitness
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
Messenger

Applicants should have:

  • Grade 10
  • Good organisational skills
  • Basic administrative knowledge
  • Ability to handle confidential documents responsibly
Food Service Aid

Applicants should have:

  • Grade 10
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation
  • Understanding of hygiene and food safety practices
  • Ability to work in a kitchen environment
Cleaner

Applicants should have:

  • Grade 10
  • Knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment
  • Ability to maintain hygienic workspaces
  • Physical fitness for cleaning duties
Main Duties

Depending on the position, successful candidates may perform duties such as:

  • Transporting SAPS officials and documents
  • Controlling access to government buildings
  • Conducting security patrols
  • Delivering official correspondence
  • Assisting with food preparation and kitchen cleaning
  • Cleaning offices, corridors, restrooms and public areas
  • Reporting maintenance or security issues
  • Maintaining workplace safety and cleanliness
