Dis-Chem Pharmacies is inviting applications for a Dispensary Support opportunity at its Potchefstroom store in the North West Province. This fixed-term training opportunity is ideal for Matric graduates who have passed Pure Mathematics and Life Sciences and/or Physical Science, and are interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy.
Successful candidates will be employed as Dispensary Support Learners while completing the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course. Once registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) and qualified as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant, learners may be offered permanent employment with Dis-Chem.

About the Opportunity
This programme allows successful applicants to complete accredited workplace training while gaining practical experience in a professional pharmacy environment.
Learners will work under the direct supervision of registered pharmacists while studying towards registration as a Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
After successfully completing the programme and obtaining SAPC registration, learners may be considered for permanent positions within Dis-Chem.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate
- Pure Mathematics with at least 50%
- Life Sciences and/or Physical Science with an average of 50%
- South African citizenship
- Ability to pass the SAPC proficiency assessment
- Clear criminal and credit record (MIE verification)
Job Responsibilities
During the programme, learners will assist pharmacists with duties including:
Pharmacy Support
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines.
- Support the preparation and compounding of non-sterile medicines under pharmacist supervision.
- Accurately interpret prescriptions while learning pharmacy procedures.
- Assist with picking, packing, labelling, and checking medication.
- Ensure all medication is verified and signed by a registered pharmacist.
Stock Control
- Receive dispensary stock according to company procedures.
- Organise shelves and maintain stock cleanliness.
- Monitor medicine expiry dates.
- Report low stock levels and stock discrepancies.
- Assist with inventory control of Schedule 1–5 medicines.
Customer Service
- Follow up with patients regarding prescriptions.
- Assist with prescription tracking.
- Handle pharmacy-related telephone enquiries.
- Support chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medicine authorisations.
- Promote health awareness by providing appropriate information to customers.
General Duties
- Assist with merchandising of dispensary and OTC shelves.
- Maintain cleanliness of the dispensary.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager.
- Work within all legal and professional requirements of the South African Pharmacy Council.

Advantageous Experience

- Previous Dis-Chem experience

- Knowledge of pharmacy retail operations
