Job Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Casual Cashier to join its Hillcrest store. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing excellent customer service at the point of sale while ensuring that all transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. The role requires strict adherence to company policies, operating procedures, and security standards to minimize errors and eliminate the risk of fraud. The cashier will play an important role in creating a positive shopping experience for customers and supporting the smooth daily operation of the store.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following essential requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
  • At least 6 months of cashier or till operation experience.
  • Computer literacy, including basic knowledge of MS Office.
  • Strong numerical and calculation skills.
  • Good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Basic customer service experience and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.

Key Responsibilities

The Casual Cashier will be expected to:

  • Deliver excellent customer service in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Build professional relationships with customers and assist them with queries.
  • Process customer purchases accurately using the store’s operating system.
  • Handle cash, card transactions, vouchers, coupons, and other approved payment methods.
  • Process loyalty and rewards cards from various partner programs.
  • Manage cash flow responsibly and maintain accurate till balances.
  • Ensure all refunds, exchanges, price changes, and void transactions are properly authorized.
  • Safeguard cash and confidential financial information at all times.
  • Monitor and report suspicious activities or potential security risks to management.
  • Stay informed about current promotions, sales campaigns, and store merchandise.
  • Follow all security procedures and ensure that all stock leaving the store has been scanned and paid for.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism and uphold Dis-Chem’s customer service principles.

  • Strong knowledge of cash register operations and cash handling procedures.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail when processing transactions.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze basic reports.
  • Honesty, integrity, and reliability in handling financial transactions.

Additional Advantages

The following will be beneficial but are not mandatory:

  • Ability to speak a third additional language.
  • Previous experience in a retail pharmacy or similar retail environment.

Employment Conditions and Benefits
