Position Overview
Curro Heritage House in Durban is seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced English Home Language Teacher (FET Phase) on a full-time basis, with duties commencing in April 2026.
This role involves teaching English HL within the Further Education and Training phase and coordinating learning in line with the Curro curriculum. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality education that promotes academic achievement, skills development, and positive learner attitudes.

Key Performance Areas
The appointed teacher will be responsible for a wide range of academic and developmental duties, including:
Teaching and Curriculum Delivery
- Planning and presenting engaging lessons using modern teaching tools and methodologies
- Preparing workbooks, learning materials, and classroom resources
- Measuring learner progress and academic improvement consistently
- Ensuring alignment with the Curro curriculum and IEB standards
Academic Planning and Assessment
- Developing and implementing term plans that consider assessments, exams, and school activities
- Adjusting teaching strategies to accommodate different learning abilities and barriers to learning
- Conducting baseline assessments to determine learner knowledge levels
- Recommending subject choices, teaching interventions, and remedial programmes
Classroom Management
- Creating a positive, disciplined, and productive learning environment
- Designing classroom layouts for optimal learning
- Managing assessment schedules and learner expectations
- Maintaining effective communication with parents and guardians
Evaluation and Support
- Managing formal and continuous assessments, including moderation and supervision
- Setting, reviewing, and supporting homework completion
- Providing one-on-one tutoring and extra lessons where required
- Supporting learners academically and emotionally
Extramural Involvement
- Planning and managing extramural activities and educational outings
- Contributing to the holistic development of learners beyond the classroom
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- BEd degree and/or PGCE in FET Phase education
- Honours degree in Education (relevant subject) – advantageous
- Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in the FET Phase
- Strong knowledge of the IEB curriculum
- SACE registration (mandatory)
- Clear criminal record
