The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is currently inviting applications for seven (7) Security Official positions at its Cape Town Office. This opportunity is ideal for experienced security professionals who are passionate about protecting critical infrastructure, safeguarding personnel and assets, and maintaining high security standards in a nationally important institution.
This role forms part of the Currency Management Department and contributes directly to maintaining the integrity, safety, and operational continuity of one of South Africa’s most vital financial institutions.
Purpose of the Role
The main purpose of the Security Official position is to protect and safeguard the personnel, facilities, and assets of the South African Reserve Bank in Cape Town. The successful candidates will ensure a secure environment by monitoring access, conducting patrols, responding to emergencies, and operating security systems in accordance with legislative requirements and SARB policies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for the following:
Access Control and Facility Protection
- Managing access and exit control points within designated operational areas
- Conducting guarding, patrolling, and escorting duties
- Preventing illegal, unauthorised, or suspicious activities
Threat Identification and Emergency Response
- Identifying, responding to, and reporting security threats and emergency situations
- Monitoring alarms, signals, and security alerts
- Participating in evacuations and emergency drills
Security Systems and Equipment
- Operating and monitoring security systems and surveillance equipment
- Ensuring optimal functionality and utilisation of security tools
Administrative and Reporting Duties
- Writing detailed incident and occurrence reports
- Completing electronic occurrence books and pocketbooks
- Maintaining accurate security records
Continuous Improvement
- Proactively improving knowledge and skills in security practices
- Adhering to SARB operational instructions and procedures
- Demonstrating professionalism and discipline at all times
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
- PSIRA Grade C qualification (mandatory)
- Valid competency certificates for firearm handling, including:
- 9mm pistol
- Semi-automatic rifle
- Shotgun
- Between 0 and 5 years of experience in a security environment
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including:
- National Key Points Act 102 of 1980
- Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000
- Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977
- SARB firearm and security policies
- Medical, psychological, and physical fitness suitable for security duties
- Willingness to work long hours and rotating shifts, including weekends
