Minimum Requirements

Applicants for the Client Service Officer posts should meet the following minimum requirements:

Educational Requirements
  • Matric / Grade 12 / Senior Certificate is mandatory.
Knowledge Requirements

Candidates must have a basic understanding of:

  • Unemployment Insurance Act and related Regulations
  • Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act
  • Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)
  • Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)
  • Treasury Regulations
  • Batho Pele Principles (customer service framework)
  • Department of Labour and UIF policies, procedures, vision, mission, and values
  • Core customer care principles

This knowledge ensures successful officers can assist clients effectively and in line with public service standards.

Skills Required

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Strong communication (verbal and written)
  • Interviewing and listening skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Analytical, interpretation, and conflict‑management skills
  • Customer relations and telephone etiquette
  • Ability to undergo on‑the‑job training with operational systems

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for a range of frontline client‑facing tasks, including:

  • Providing screening services to clients visiting the Labour Centre
  • Processing Benefit Applications for the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)
  • Registering continuation of payment forms and other related documentation
  • Rendering various administrative support services
  • Assisting members of the public with enquiries and guiding them through departmental processes

These duties make the role central to the department’s mission to deliver efficient, accessible services to the public.
