About the Organisation
The Institute of Health Programs and Systems (IHPS) is a South African non-profit company established in 2010 following the PEPFAR CDC Track 1 transition of the ICAP, Columbia University Multi-country AIDS Program (MCAP). IHPS operates with a clear mission to strengthen health and development systems through effective programme implementation and strategic partnerships.
IHPS envisions a South Africa where optimal and sustainable health and development outcomes are achieved through data-driven, community-focused interventions. The organisation is currently a Global Fund (GF) Subrecipient under the National Department of Health, responsible for implementing Tuberculosis (TB) programmes in several districts, including Johannesburg Health District (Gauteng), Dr Kenneth Kaunda District (North West), and Frances Baard District (Northern Cape), from October 2025 to March 2028.
To support these critical programmes, IHPS invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for Data Capturer positions.
Position Overview
The Data Capturer will be responsible for capturing, verifying, managing, and reporting health-related data at supported health facilities and community sites. The role focuses primarily on TB programme data and ensures accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting in line with national health information standards.
Successful candidates will be based at health facilities and will work closely with facility staff and the IHPS Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team to maintain high-quality data that supports programme performance, reporting, and patient tracking.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be required to perform the following duties:
- Capture, record, and report data collected from TB screening activities at health facilities and community level
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly data reports as required
- Collect, verify, and clean data on a monthly and quarterly basis to ensure data accuracy and quality
- Compile system-generated reports highlighting programme performance, successes, and challenges
- Submit reports to facility staff, sub-districts, districts, and IHPS management as required
- Maintain proper filing systems and perform general administrative duties
- Actively participate in daily programme activities and preparation
- Conduct social mobilisation activities to support demand creation
- Capture data on relevant monitoring systems, including DHIS, TIER.Net, and any additional systems introduced
- Provide technical guidance to users on effective use of information systems and computer equipment
- Ensure timely submission of accurate data and reports
- Manage programme data in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent qualification
- NQF Level 6 qualification in data management, statistics, public health, health sciences, social sciences, information technology, or a related field will be an added advantage
Technical Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 0-two (2) years’ experience in data capturing and reporting
- Experience in capturing and reporting TB and HIV programme data
- Matric Mathematics will be an added advantage
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent computer literacy with strong keyboarding skills (speed and accuracy)
Knowledge and Competencies
- Working knowledge of health information systems such as DHIS, TIER.Net, EDRWeb, PREHIMS, or PHCIS will be advantageous
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Good organisational, communication, and reporting skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
