The City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality invites applications for the position of General Worker within the Group Property Department. This role is based at the Bosman Street Workshop in Pretoria Central and is open to both internal and external applicants.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to render general routine work at the Bosman Street Workshop. The successful candidate will support daily workshop operations by ensuring cleanliness, safety, and compliance with occupational health standards.


Key Responsibilities

The General Worker will be responsible for performing a range of routine and support duties, including but not limited to:

  • Sweeping and cleaning workshop floors to maintain a safe and orderly working environment.
  • Cleaning drains, pits, work levels, and machinery within the workshop area.
  • Cleaning and maintaining tools allocated to artisans and workshop staff.
  • Reporting any lost, damaged, or faulty tools to the supervisor promptly.
  • Assisting with basic workshop housekeeping duties as required.
  • Executing instructions received from supervisors accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act 85 of 1993) at all times.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness to support operational efficiency and safety.

Appointment Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Ability to execute general manual duties effectively.
  • Basic literacy skills.
  • Relevant experience in providing cleaning services in a workshop or similar environment will be an added advantage.
  • Physical fitness and good health, with the ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects.
  • Willingness to undergo a criminal record check, including fingerprinting by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at the applicant’s own cost.
