The Department of Health is seeking dedicated, detail-oriented Data Capturers to join its Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong computer skills, a keen eye for accuracy, and a commitment to supporting health sector operations.
About the Role
As a Data Capturer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that the Department’s records, statistics, and personnel data are accurately captured, maintained, and managed. You will support management by providing accurate information that informs decision-making, reporting, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
This role requires a balance of technical data management skills, administrative ability, and interpersonal communication to support team operations effectively. You will be responsible for both electronic and manual data handling, ensuring confidentiality, and producing reliable reports for the Occupational Health Task Team.
Key Responsibilities
The Data Capturer will be responsible for:
- Recording, organizing, and retrieving data efficiently.
- Developing and maintaining databases for electronic data capture.
- Compiling and filing statistics both electronically and manually.
- Consolidating monthly and quarterly statistics for reporting purposes.
- Capturing attendance registers for Occupational Health Task Team monthly meetings.
- Following up on documents submitted to the Department of Finance.
- Providing statistical reports to the Occupational Health Task Team.
- Maintaining personnel records and attendance registers for the component.
- Communicating effectively with supervisors and management.
- Supporting management with administrative tasks and data-related queries.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Education: Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Experience: At least 1 year of relevant experience in data capturing, administration, or office support.
- Skills:
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Basic numeracy and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Attributes:
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
- South African citizens are encouraged to apply.

Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and accompanied by an evaluation certificate.
Selection Process
- Shortlisted candidates may be subjected to skills or knowledge tests.
- Personnel suitability checks, including criminal record, citizenship, credit, qualification, and employment verification, will be conducted.
- Where applicable, candidates may undergo medical surveillance in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993).
