Position Summary
Fidelity Fire Solutions, a division of Fidelity Services Group, is seeking a General Worker: Wireman to join its Fire Division in Philippi, Western Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, connection, testing, and maintenance of electrical wiring and related systems in accordance with approved standards and safety regulations.
This role requires attention to detail, technical understanding, and a strong commitment to workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
The Wireman will be responsible for the following duties:
- Install and connect electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and related components according to blueprints and electrical codes
- Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
- Test electrical systems using appropriate equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters
- Identify, troubleshoot, and repair electrical faults or replace defective wiring and components
- Ensure that all work complies with local and national electrical regulations and safety standards
- Perform maintenance checks to ensure proper functioning of electrical systems
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and functional condition
- Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned tasks within project timelines
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and adhere strictly to safety procedures
Required Skills and Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification
- Basic knowledge of electrical codes and regulations (such as NEC or IEC standards)
- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and technical schematics
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
- Physically fit and able to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and operate in confined spaces
Types of Work
Depending on operational needs, the Wireman may be involved in:
- Residential installations: Electrical work in houses and residential buildings
- Commercial installations: Electrical systems in offices, retail centres, and commercial properties
- Industrial installations: Electrical systems in factories and industrial facilities
Work Environment
- Work may be performed indoors and outdoors
- The role may require working at heights, in tight spaces, or under varying weather conditions
- Overtime or weekend work may be required depending on project demands
