Programme Overview

Mogale City Local Municipality, in partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), invites suitably qualified youth graduates to apply for 55 EPWP Youth Graduate Work Opportunities.

This programme aims to provide unemployed graduates with practical work experience in environmental management, conservation, urban greening, compliance, and administration. Successful candidates will gain hands-on exposure while contributing to environmental sustainability initiatives within the Mogale City jurisdiction.

Who Should Apply

The opportunity is open to South African youth who meet the minimum requirements and are interested in environmental development, conservation, compliance, and community-based programmes.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • M + 3 qualification (Matric plus three years of study) in one of the following fields:
    • Environmental Studies
    • Biodiversity
    • Conservation
    • Forestry
    • Air Quality
    • Landscaping
    • Horticulture
    • By-law Enforcement
    • Environmental Health
  • Be between 18 and 35 years of age
  • South African citizen
  • Preference will be given to applicants residing within the Mogale City area of jurisdiction
  • People with disabilities are encouraged to apply

Available Positions and Responsibilities

Education & Awareness (3 Positions)

  • Develop and implement environmental education and awareness programmes
  • Create educational materials such as posters, leaflets, and displays
  • Collaborate with environmental organisations and community groups
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of awareness initiatives
Climate Change (3 Positions)
  • Assist with the implementation of climate change programmes and initiatives
Environmental Compliance Promotion (3 Positions)
  • Conduct field investigations and data collection
  • Support enforcement of environmental regulations
  • Promote sustainable environmental practices
Landscaping (3 Positions)
  • Develop landscaping plans and masterplans
  • Assist with the Urban Greening Strategy
  • Support the design of public parks, gardens, and streetscapes
  • Assist with administration and reporting
Nature Conservation (1 Position)
  • Identify and assess environmental hazards
  • Collect, analyse, and report conservation data
  • Assess biodiversity trends and contribute to conservation efforts
Urban Green / Horticulture (4 Positions)
  • Participate in tree planting and urban greening projects
  • Assist with beautification and community gardening initiatives
  • Support seasonal flower displays
By-law Enforcement (9 Positions)
  • Profile and monitor illegal dumping hotspots
  • Capture photographic evidence of dumping sites and vehicles
  • Conduct inspections of waste storage and recycling facilities
  • Support recycling initiatives and conduct awareness sessions
  • Assist with preparation of by-law enforcement notices and fines
Environmental Health (3 Positions)
  • Analyse illegal dumping hotspots
  • Develop databases for waste transporters and recycling facilities
  • Develop standard operating procedures for waste management
  • Review waste generator reports and evaluate revenue performance
Administration (2 Positions)
  • Provide general office and administrative support
  • Manage records, filing systems, and office coordination
  • Assist with budgeting, reporting, and project coordination
