Job Overview

Curro Holdings, a leading independent schooling provider in South Africa, is seeking to appoint a Class Assistant (Full-Time) at Waterstone College in Johannesburg South. The successful candidate will commence duties in March 2026 and will play an important role in supporting teaching and learning across the relevant phase and grade.

Key Performance Areas

The Class Assistant will work closely with teachers and school management to support academic, administrative, and co-curricular activities. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Working closely with phase and class teachers to support the effective running of the phase and grade
  • Assisting in creating and maintaining a positive, structured, and educational classroom environment that supports teaching and learning
  • Supporting the planning, preparation, and delivery of learning activities under the guidance and direction of the class teacher
  • Assisting with the management of learner behaviour in line with school policies, classroom routines, and disciplinary procedures
  • Providing general classroom support to ensure that lessons run smoothly and learners are appropriately supported

Classroom, Administrative, and Resource Support

The Class Assistant will be responsible for providing practical classroom and administrative assistance. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing learning materials, resources, and equipment as required for lessons and activities
  • Taking responsibility for the proper use, care, and safekeeping of school equipment, classroom resources, and stock allocated to the class and teacher
  • Assisting with basic record keeping and classroom administration
  • Supporting communication with learners where appropriate and under the guidance of the teacher
  • Assisting with general administrative tasks as required by the school

Sport, Cultural, and Co-Curricular Support

In addition to classroom responsibilities, the Class Assistant will support the broader school programme. This includes:

  • Assisting with the organisation, supervision, and promotion of sport and cultural activities within the school
  • Supporting teachers and the school during sport practices, matches, cultural events, and school activities
  • Assisting with co-curricular duties as and when required
  • Providing additional support during school events, outings, or special programmes

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the minimum requirements outlined below:

  • Currently studying towards a Bachelor of Education (BEd) in the Foundation Phase
  • Relevant experience in a similar position within a school environment
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience working with learners or in a classroom support role
  • A clear criminal record

  • The ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
