Introduction

Eskom is offering an exciting opportunity for suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Learner Hospitality (X10) positions based at the Eskom Academy of Learning in Midrand. This programme is designed to provide learners with structured workplace exposure and practical experience within a professional hospitality environment.

The successful candidates will form part of the Hospitality Department within the Eskom Academy of Learning and will work under the guidance of the Executive Chef and experienced hospitality professionals. This 24-month fixed-term contract aims to equip learners with the skills, knowledge, and workplace readiness required for a career in the hospitality and catering industry.

Area of Specialisation

The Learner Hospitality role focuses on assisting the Executive Chef with the overall running of the kitchen, including food preparation, administrative tasks, operational activities, and customer service, while ensuring compliance with quality, health, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Successful candidates will be required to perform the following duties:

  • Assist with the preparation and production of food in accordance with established menus and quality standards
  • Support daily kitchen operations to ensure efficient and smooth service delivery
  • Control and monitor stock levels, including receiving, storage, and usage of ingredients and supplies
  • Assist with administrative duties related to kitchen operations and hospitality services
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) requirements
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to internal and external clients
  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, hygiene, and food safety regulations at all times
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen and service areas
  • Work collaboratively with team members to support overall hospitality operations
Learning and Development

This learner programme provides hands-on exposure in a structured learning environment. Participants will gain practical experience in food preparation, kitchen administration, customer service, and operational compliance. The programme is intended to enhance employability and prepare learners for future opportunities within the hospitality and catering sector.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

Applicants must have one of the following qualifications:

  • National Diploma or National N Diploma in Catering Management
  • Hospitality and Catering Services qualification
  • Hotel School Qualification at NQF Level 6 with 240 credits

Experience

  • No prior work experience is required
