Job Description
Nedbank is offering an exciting youth employment opportunity through the Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme. This initiative aims to support unemployed young South Africans by providing meaningful workplace experience, skills development, and exposure to a professional working environment.
The Nedbank YES Programme forms part of a national effort, in partnership with government and the private sector, to address youth unemployment and promote economic inclusion. Successful candidates will gain hands-on work experience across various Nedbank business units while developing essential workplace and professional skills.
Please note: The YES Programme is not a learnership, internship, or apprenticeship. It is a structured work experience programme.
Key Responsibilities
Selected YES participants will:
- Gain practical, on-the-job work experience in a professional banking environment
- Support day-to-day operations within assigned departments
- Work collaboratively with teams and supervisors
- Develop workplace skills such as communication, time management, and problem-solving
- Comply with workplace policies, procedures, and performance expectations
Specific duties will depend on the division, role, and business requirements.
Duration and Working Hours
- Contract duration: 12 months
- Programme start date: 01 May 2026
- Working hours may include weekdays and, depending on the role, shift work that could include weekends and public holidays
- Some roles may allow for hybrid or remote work, while others require on-site attendance
- Participants must be able to travel to and from their assigned workplace
Stipend
YES participants will receive a monthly stipend, aligned with the YES Programme guidelines. The stipend is intended to assist with basic living expenses such as transport, food, and daily costs. This is not a salary and does not guarantee permanent employment.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be between 18 and 29 years old as of 01 May 2026
(Born between 02 May 1997 and 01 May 2008) - Have at least a Matric (Grade 12) qualification, OR a completed post-matric qualification at one of the following levels:
- NQF Level 5 (Higher Certificate)
- NQF Level 6 (Diploma)
- NQF Level 7 (Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree)
- Be currently unemployed
- Be a South African-born African, Coloured, or Indian citizen, in line with the BBBEE Act definition of “black people”
- Have not previously participated in a YES Programme with another organisation
