We are currently looking for a dedicated and experienced Cleaner to join our Fourways store. The successful candidate will ensure the store is maintained to the highest hygienic standards, creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our customers and employees.
🧾 Job Summary
As a Store Cleaner, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness across all areas of the Fourways store, including the shop floor, stockroom, dispensary, admin office, and staff canteen.
Your role will involve daily cleaning routines before the store opens, as well as ongoing maintenance throughout trading hours. This position requires an individual who is hardworking, reliable, and able to uphold Dis-Chem’s hygiene and safety standards at all times.
This is a fixed-term contract position suitable for individuals who are physically fit, attentive to detail, and able to work flexible retail hours.
🎯 Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the store.
- Clean the shop floor, stockroom, dispensary, offices, restrooms, and canteen areas daily.
- Develop and follow cleaning routines and schedules to ensure all store areas are neat and sanitized.
- Restock cleaning supplies and consumables (toilet paper, soap, sanitizer, etc.) as required.
- Be available throughout operational hours to clean up spills and maintain order when needed.
- Use the correct cleaning products and equipment for different surfaces and tasks.
- Display “wet floor” signs when cleaning to ensure customer and staff safety.
- Dispose of waste and recyclables according to store procedures.
- Follow Health and Safety Regulations at all times.
- Represent the company professionally, with courtesy and customer-friendly behavior.
- Assist customers politely if approached during cleaning activities.
📚 Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- At least 6 months of cleaning experience (in retail, commercial, or corporate environments)
- Good command of English (spoken and written)
- Basic customer service skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and take direction
- Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends, public holidays, and shifts
- Physical fitness to handle cleaning tasks such as walking, bending, lifting, and carrying equipment
Advantageous:
- Previous retail store cleaning experience
- Bilingual (English and an additional local language)
